DICKS SPORTING GOODS TWIMC
Youth Sports are pretty bloody important in fact it’s been proven that sport can play a vital role in the success of young people’s lives, especially at risk youth and in particular young women. The fact that sport is slowly becoming a pastime only for the rich makes me want to scream. This was shot in Birmingham AL with local youth athletes, no actors just some kids and one lovely parent who are all affected by the undergoing of youth sports.
GREATNESS IS CONTAGIOUS
Cricket is God's Game. The sport that anchors me back to Australia after so long away. I really wanted it to be as sexy and as rock and roll as all the other sports ...I think I nearly did it.
THEY’RE HERE!!!
On the Monday of Holiday weekend 3 days before the shoot, my cast dropped out and I had to put my three kids in at the last moment. They were really funny too. The old couple were amazing. Deaf as doornail and they kept telling wildly inappropriate stories at the dinner table.
So apparently there was this thing that happened in 2020 that you would think would only happen in the movies…. These were to get people back in the cinema for the Festival….
Obviously, I owe much Mr. Scott and Mr. Peele.
Anomaly has always done amazing work for Dick's Sporting Goods and I'm as proud of this as anything I've ever done. Meeting the people of the Fifth Ward in Houston and in particular Carlos Honore changed the way I think as a parent and a human.
This is the long form version. The short one won lots of shiny things but this one gets to the heart of the Saints a bit deeper. Sports Matter as the good people of Dick's say, but man just spend a day in the Fifth Ward and you know exactly why professional players are taking a knee.
A FILM BY BILLY AND BEN QUINN
I guess it’s a little weird putting this on here because this film was made by my 13 year old son and myself as a homeschooling project during lockdown. He’s gonna be a great filmmaker if he chooses to forgo his contract with Arsenal. He knows what he likes and what he doesn’t.
We made grip equipment from stuff we got at the hardware store, used a toy drone that was unused in the cupboard, and skated around an empty Venice with a camera and lenses from eBay.
Weirdly exhilarating to make shit so simple and without pressure.
A FILM BY BILLY AND BEN QUINN
This summer film school project the second film Bill and I have made together. It’s got a bit more life than the first film we made in Lockdown.…It was just him and me and a little cart full of equipment. We even made an illegal smoke machine from bits and pieces from Home depot.
The VBFC community is a big part of his life.( and mine tbh) More than just a club as they say…
This spot was only meant to be 30 seconds long but it was just really watchable seeing these kids do nothing for a few minutes. Its not really an ad, and its not even finished….It just Reminds me of being a kid when nothing happens in your day but it just doesn't matter. The short one is available somewhere but I guess having a website means you can be indulgent without anyone telling you not to be so.....
This is a love letter to my old man. Its the only short film I have on this website. But seeing that I am loading all my long commercials onto it, I thought I could sneak it in there.
Making this made me happy...And sad I guess but I had the greatest crew ever. Brendan just happened to be in London and keen, Brian said he'd do it if a PA drove to Glasgow and picked some luggage for him. Anamaria Marinca made me weep and she's only in it for about 12 seconds. The great Barry Ackroyd shot it and Maria Djurkovic designed it.
I was a very lucky boy.
PS. I heard from Brian recently. He said, “i’m doing a show called “Succession, if you have heard of it”. Yes, Brian, I have heard of it.
